Did you know that each year Americans consume enough Candy Corn that if laid end-to-end, would circle the earth 4.25 times?
Seriously? That's a LOT of candy corn. I guess I'm not the only one who let a bag slip into my cart on grocery day!
Need a fun snack around this time of the year? My mom adds a can of salted peanuts to a bag of Candy Corn for a PayDay-like treat. I personally don't like candy too much, but Manly thinks it's amazing and the girls like it too.

Friday Fun

Cleaning day is done and now all the darlings are sleeping while I eat my vegetable soup. =)

A few things for today.
First of all, I decided after putting the chairs up on the table to vacuum underneath that we should make a fort under there, so after I was finished I ran upstairs and got the kids to clean up the toys they were playing with and we grabbed some blankets and came downstairs. They quickly decided that their bear animal snuggie was going to be the bear skin rug and soon after that their imaginations were running WILD! While I was making lunch I heard them calling Isaiah "Meeko"(Pocahontas' pet raccoon). Of course Olivia was Pocahontas herself. Who else could fill that important role. Addison was her friend, but we couldn't remember her name, so we called her Natsu, which sounded like a good Indian name to me. Emma Claire, of course, wanted to be the chief. ;) I made a good "Indian" lunch of beef sticks(cut turkey dogs), dried apples(actually not dried at all, just ran through the corer, slicer, peeler), fresh cucumbers(pickles), and cheese. They thought this was hysterical and I let them eat in their "tepee" because of course that's where Indian's eat. Olivia is resting under there right now. They are so excited to show "Father" when he gets home. I know you are wondering what role I played in this. Well, don't tell anyone, but I was John Smith...

Also, I've had several requests for my laundry soap recipe. Any time I mention it I get lots of responses. We use a variation of the Duggar Family recipe, which can be found on their website here.  They actually have lots of interesting things on their site. Anyway, when I'm making mine I double the Borax to 1 cup and since I can't ever find the Fels-Naptha bar soap I usually just use whatever I have a coupon for. This last time I used Irish Spring and my soap has had a nice smell. I don't want it to be too strong, but I do want it to smell nice and clean. The secret to getting the soap to clean as good as I need it to is by adding at least a scoop of Oxy Clean(or a cheap knock-off) to it before adding the water. I also add 1/2 scoop of Oxy Clean any time I have REALLY nasty clothes. It's also important to pre-treat your stained clothes.
I keep my soap in a big bucket either in the garage or the laundry room, but I have the manly man fill up an empty tide container full so that I don't have to try and lift the giant bucket for each load. I just need to shake my container up before pouring it into the washer. Let me know if you have any problems or if you find a bar soap that works nicely for you. I'm always on the look out for improving my recipe and have recently found the oxy clean to be a BIG help.
Last, I use a little vinegar as an odor remover and fabric softener. I don't use it in all my loads, but especially on towels and sheets and those sorts of things. It's also really good for the hoses in your washer and will keep it running nicely.=)
Good Luck!

We're Gonna PARRRRR-TEEEEE!

We had Isaiah's birthday party on Saturday. It really turned out cute! We were on a small budget, so I handmade most of the decorations and ended up having a lot of fun getting it all together. Here are a few pictures.

The invitation. Just in case you didn't see it yet.

This is the little emblem that I designed to go on everything.

I printed these out and pasted them on the backs of 4X6 pictures of Isaiah to give as party favors since it was a family party and I knew there weren't going to be many kids for "real" party favors.

And now for the party pictures.=)

Sweet Brub right before the party. He wasn't feeling well and looked all puffy, but he's still smiling!
I made the banner from two types of scrap booking paper which was on sale at hobby lobby and white card stock that we already had. It made me want a cricut as I hand cut each letter out, but it ended up looking SO cute!

Sweet brother. His shirt was an iron on also on sale at Hobby Lobby for less than $2.50.
I got the plain white shirt there for like $3.99. He also had on birthday boy shoes that I got at Babies R Us back when he was a newborn for $1!

The office set up to seat our guests while they eat.

The party table!! Snacks included: Animal crackers, pop corn, roasted peanuts, white chocolate dipped oreos, rock candy, dipped pretzel rods, jelly beans, grapes and blue berries, punch, cake, and ice cream.

The cake we made! I thought it turned out pretty cute and it matched really well.

Another picture of the party table.

Punch made from green Hawaiian punch and ice cream.

Green and blue jelly beans. The dang candy was the most expensive thing in the whole party!

Blueberries and Grapes

Rock candy.

White chocolate dipped oreos. WHAT A MESS, BUT GOOOOOD!

Isaiah's smash cake. It matched the little emblem I designed perfectly thanks to my cake decorating husband!

The party favor bucket. These pictures had the thank you notes on the backs. You can also see the dipped pretzels in this picture.

Momma, Daddy, and the party animal after he'd been changed from eating cake.

More pictures to come of the actual party tomorrow. For now I have minds to mold and children to train...

If You Sing a Song a Day, You Will Make a Better Way!!

You know you've got that song in your head now. You know the one. Be it the original form sung by Earth, Wind, and Fire or the spunky version by the girls of Point of Grace, that is one fun song to get in your head, but that's not what this post is about!
My children love music! They come by it honestly; Scotty and I both come from musical families and are musicians ourselves. They are usually heard throughout the house singing away. Usually several different songs are going on at the same time. They have their own stash of cds and a player in their room, musical instruments, a real working Dora mic with amp. These kids are musicians at heart.
Olivia recently learned a song that has us all singing it around the house. It's one that I'm pretty sure I sang as a child. It goes like this:

Now THAT is a FUN song to get stuck in your head.=) Well, a few days ago brother started singing it. Now, he's not into saying 4 syllable words yet, so he just sings the Ho's Ha's and He's, but he just sings his heart out! SO so sweet. I just love these babies.
Now play that video again and go out singing about the Joy of the Lord!

Horses Horses EVERYWHERE!!

So, Olivia always sings this crazy song she made up that goes: "Horses Horses EVERYWHERE! Horses Horses IN THE AIR!!" She sings it over and over again and has her sisters singing it too. Sometimes I'll even get it stuck in my head and find myself singing it!=)
Anyway, her party was this past weekend and we had HORSES HORSES EVERYWHERE! Real ones! It was the best party EVER. Everyone had a great time and the horses were a hit! Here is the evidence.

Be Still

In the light of all that is and has been going on, I needed this last night.

We took Olivia to her first ever VBS this week at a local church. She had a great time. She LOVES getting to sing and do"emotions"(what she calls motions). It's so neat to see your kids heart. I feel like I can see Liv's heart in this video. What a special child!
Here are some pictures from her special family night.
With some of her friends.=)

Just an Idea

So, my kids love sweet stuff. Especially Emma Claire. Ask that child her favorite thing in the world and she will most definitely say, "COOOOOKIES!!" Well, in my efforts to being healthier and better to my body as well as those in my family I've been looking for some alternatives for sweet stuff for the girls. Last night I think I hit the jackpot!
I bought something like this and have until last night used it to pour juice into and freeze for ice pops. This is also a healthy idea as long as the juice is all natural and not sweetened. SO, last night I made them yogurt and apple sauce pops. They LOVED them. I just poured my all-natural unsweetened apple sauce into the mold as well as some yumm-o yogurt. Not together. =) anyway, then let it freeze and Ta-DA, yummy dessert! Try it. You'll like it. Your kids will like it.=)

I've started putting most of the girls toys out of reach and in organized buckets. For instance, there is a bucket of animals, a bucket of doll house and barn stuff, a puzzle shelf, game shelf, dolls and doll accessories inside of a baby bed all up over their heads. Now, those of you who really know me know that I am a clean freak and organizing fool. My kids like to try to wear this out of me, but lately I've beat them! I'll give them one activity at a time and not only does it keep their room reasonably clean, but it also keeps their attention for longer. They also have to clean up the activity before moving onto another activity. I LOVE this new out of site out of mind thing we've got going on and it really does work!
