Netflix: The Ultimate Brain Number

So I've mentioned before that our TV stays off while the kids are awake. Occasionally we'll let the kids watch PBS on Saturday mornings while we're getting breakfast ready, but other than that it stays off and the kids just watch the occasional movie(when it's too cold or wet to go outside in the afternoon) while I'm working on dinner. It makes movie time a big treat, which is really nice for me as you can imagine. Now, when the kids are in bed, there are times when I just need a moment to dull my brain and stop thinking about the day and everything I didn't get done. That's when the TV comes on. I only have a few shows that I love on TV: Grey's Anatomy, and Parenthood are the only two I watch on TV. Other than that I watch Private Practice on hulu the next day(because it comes on at the same time as Parenthood.).
For the last several years we've had Netflix because we don't have cable. We've done everything from getting 3 dvd's at a time to what we have now, which is just instant streaming. It's only $7 a month(or something like that), and we use it most every day. For those of you who aren't on Netflix, there are television shows and movies on there for the whole family. The kids have been able to watch the same episodes of Sesame Street that we watched as children.
Some of the shows I watched on there are(not all are endorsed by the Smittles!!):
  • Friday Night Lights
  • 24
  • Grey's Anatomy
  • White Collar
  • Parenthood
  • Brothers and Sisters
  • Say Yes to the Dress
  • Cake Boss
  • Sister Wives
  • Kate Plus 8
  • LOST
There are also really good documentaries on there that we've loved. For a while we were on a cod kick that ran until we were full of strange facts. Here are a few that we liked:
  • Food, Inc.
  • Being Elmo
  • The Business of Being Born
  • More Business of Being Born
  • The Pixar Story
Now, in the area of movies they aren't that great, but sometimes they really surprise us and they'll have some really good ones on there. They always have good older movies to watch, and right now they have a pretty good collection of Holiday movies.

If I were on the Netflix board I'd include the following shows/movies:
  • FRIENDS
  • Full House
  • Little House on the Prairie
  • Castaway
  • 19 Kids and Counting(all the episodes before it too)
  • Any movie made after 2004(when we had Olivia and stopped going to the movies!)

  1. I agree with your list of what should be on there! Although I have the entire FRIENDS collection so I'm not missing that one. :)
