Swamp People Taught me That

I've mentioned that we recently bought a smart TV. We've been really pleased with our purchase so far. Because it's wifi we are able to stream netflix, so we've been watching tv series on there after the kids are in bed. We started with Friday Night Lights, which I recommend. It's a great picture of marriage and has so many truths about manhood. I loved watching it along with Scotty. I even set up a finale watch party complete with face paint, posters, and pizza. So much fun.
Next we watched Sister Wives. WHOA. I've always thought polygamy was so fascinating. NO, I'm not saying I agree with it AT ALL. I'm just saying I've always thought it was interesting to see the way they live and how things work. Not sure I'd say I recommend the show. It's just...interesting.
We started watching Swamp People this week and I must say, I LOVE IT! At first I thought I might not be able to watch it because I am scared of lakes anyway. I was worried watching people kill alligators out of swaps would give me nightmares, but I'm learning(for me anyway) there is much more than just killing gators. I love watching the father/son teams interact. It's actually been really good for me to stop and think about how I interact with my kids and if I am speaking life into my kids or not. There is so much criticism coming from the father's on that show. I know they love their sons, but it's often hard for the sons to see it. Do I gush out love for my kids? Do they know, by how I interact with them, that I love them? Is Christ pouring out of me like an overflowing fountain? I know it might be a stretch, but I really feel like sometimes the Holy Spirit uses the most unlikely things to get our attention. So, I guess Swamp People taught me to slow down and love on my littles more. Now, don't be a hater until you've seen an episode!

Fall Television

I just LOVE fall. I love the cooler weather. I love cowboy boots, denim, and sweaters. I love pumpkins and gourds of all shapes and colors. I love crispy leaves dancing in my rear view mirror. I love the fall holidays. I just LOVE fall.
One of the other things I love about fall is the Fall television line-up. Let's just be honest, summer television is the reason so many people go on vacation to the beach in the summer. There is NOTHING on but Reality TV, and Wipeout(both of which give me a nice laugh from time to time).

Some of the shows that have me watching on Hulu the next day(because we don't actually have a television in our home anymore) are:

• The Sing-Off: Love this show. I'm not sure how I missed it completely last season, but it's got my attention this season. It's a musical reality show that showcases groups that use only their voices, or a Capella music. If you haven't seen it, check it out. You can also download the songs on i-tunes(another thing we don't have, but would be fun for you techies out there).
• Survivor: I may be one of the only people still watching this show, but I just really enjoy watching the dynamics and social factor of the show. It's so interesting to me how things can change SO fast when you're living on an island or wherever they are. I like that they have two all-star players this time. Interesting.
• The Biggest Looser: This is a must-see for me. Each season I am inspired by the contestants. I'm usually guilty of watching while sitting in the bed eating a snack, but still. It's a good show! This season it's the "Battle of the ages." They've taken the contestants and split them up according to age. It's going to be interesting to see if that makes a difference in the outcome of the show.
• The Office: I'm what I like to call a fair weather friend of this show. I only watch it if Scotty is home and wants to watch it and thinks it's a particularly good episode. It's funny. If you've been under a rock for 1,000 years and haven't ever seen an episode it's worth your 24 minutes to watch one (or two).
• The Amazing Race: Again, this show has been on for a long time, but this season caught my attention because it has the dating couple Ethan and Jenna who also played (and each won) Survivor. Ethan has also survived cancer. I may not watch the entire season, but I did watch the premiere.
• Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice: I know I know. These are not edifying nor Holy. They are my guilty pleasure shows. They are on back to back. Private Practice is a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, and the characters do cross-over episodes about 3 times a season. I've seen every episode of both shows. Yes, every single one. I'm not sure how much more I'll watch of Private Practice, because at the end of the last episode I was ready to not watch it any more, but I'm going to at least watch the premiere this Thursday.
• *UPDATED* Up All Night: This show had me in tears I was laughing so hard. Really cute show, and I LOVE Christina Applegate! A cute show about how having a baby changes things! Thanks for reminding me of this one, Jes.

Some that I watched, but won't be watching any more:

• Modern Family. It's funny, but doesn't capture my attention for some reason. Maybe the strange collection of characters.
• PanAm: Just not a GREAT show. I'm sure there will be a lot of sex in this show, which is something I try to stay away from watching.
• Two Broke Girls: Not good. Bad acting. Choppy story.
• The New Girl: Scotty has a crush on Zoe Dashmanunu or whatever her last name is. Ha! This is a good idea for a show, but again too choppy and bad acting.

So what am I missing? What should I try watching? What are your favorites this season?

Randomness on a Tuesday

• I recently heard a story on K-Love(our christian radio station) that the Guiding Light was going off the air. I was a little thrown off about why they were covering the story on the radio, seeing how Guiding Light is a SOAP OPERA. They said the show, which has been going for 72 YEARS, began with a Christan message. Apparently the whole "guiding" light was a lantern placed in the fictional church window to welcome those seeking guidance. Hmmm...Anyway, I remember working my behind off in High school just so I could be finished with school in time to watch it every afternoon. I actually also have a childhood memory of "helping" my mom fold laundry while watching it every afternoon. I haven't seen it in YEARS as I haven't watched daytime television since college, but I'm PRETTY sure the message is no longer a Christian one...AnyWAY, farewell Guiding Light. Farewell, Reba!
• I decided to eat cereal for lunch today because I just didn't think I could get anything else down today. I got everything ready and finally sat down to the computer to eat and surf. As I took my first bite I got milk all over the place. I guess, in my absent mindedness, I grabbed a fork instead of a spoon. Really doesn't work well with cereal. Oh, to have my full brain back. These kids, suck it right out of ya, I tell you! If it's true that with each child some of your brain cells die I'll be brain dead by 30.
• I've been thinking about writing a will, speaking of being dead. Geez! We don't have much, but I'd like to have something in writing as far as the kids go so that people don't try to fight for them. Hey, they're cute, smart kids, who wouldn't want them. Anyway, I need to get on that and get something in place just in case. Do any of you have one? How'd you do it?
• Emma Claire has decided that she is 6. I have NO clue where this came from, but she is DETERMINED that she is NOT 2, she's SIX! She argued with me the other day that she did indeed need school supplies and a back to school outfit because she was 6 and she was going to be going to school. Ah, kids...
• Please be in prayer for my cousin, Rachel. She's 36 weeks pregnant and is sporting a pretty high BP along with a few heart rate spikes from the baby at her last stress test. Rachel also has a rare blood disease, so the complications that go with that put her at a pretty high risk. Just pray that all will go well and that baby Harrison will stay put until he is good and ready and that Rachel's BP will go down and she'll maintain her current blood count.
• My brother is officially a marine. He was sworn in yesterday afternoon. He scored really well on all the entrance exams, so he's really excited about a new opportunity. I'm glad for him. He's needed some kind of change in his life for a while. I'm praying this is a great one for him and it puts him on a good path for the rest of his life.
• Don't watch the movie "Be Kind, Rewind." It's terrible. Jack Black at his WORST!
• My house is clean, my dishes are washed, my laundry is folded, my kids are sleeping. It's time for some me time. Hollah!

I think my blogging mind is broken.

ANYWAY, I've decided that today, we'll have a moment of silence for Kris Allen, winner of American Idol and resident of our own hometown, Conway, AR.




HA! Yeah, I'm glad that he won, but we never even watched one show. Sorry to all you die hard KA fans!=)



ANYWAY, now that the seasons of all our shows have come to an end and summer broadcasting will soon begin I'm not sure what we'll do with our evenings. Although it it tempting to watch Wipeout. Scotty thinks it's so hilarious. Probably just have to sit and talk or something. Gah. I must say I'm so thankful for internet broadcasting of all my favorite shows. I'll have to go back and watch my favorite episodes. I think I could watch the epi of LOST where Charlie dies 100 times and still cry. *Snif. Snif*

Does anyone watch LOST? I'm starting to think that things are going to take a spiritual route in 2010. Dude, we are getting close to 2010. That's crazy.

I'm not sure who all actually reads this, because I always get a good response from people on Facebook.

So, like I said, I have lots of thoughts but not really in the mood to get them out. Maybe I should load pictures. But then, if you are reading from facebook you've already seen my pictures anyway.

Go to Sleep, You Little Baby

So, you'd think that with three small children I wouldn't even come close to having baby fever. Most people I know spend a few hours with a small child and the baby fever vanishes. Not so with me. Lately I've been ready for another baby in our home. Call me crazy, but I love having little ones in our house. I love the smell, the sounds(even tiny cries), the sweet wrinkly skin! I miss having a newborn. I wonder if Michelle Duggar is the same way. I'm sure people give her a hard time about ever wishing for another baby, but I can see where she'd feel the same way. Once mine are about 6 months old I feel like God starts preparing my heart for another baby. At first I thought I was indeed crazy, but now I'm starting to think that it's God's way of reminding me that he is in control of our family and that he will give me everything I need. Including the sanity to have yet another child in our family.
These days my womb is longing for a baby boy. I'm sort of kidding. Seriously, I'd be fine if we had all girls, but lately I've been getting boy happy and thinking what fun it would be to have a dirty boy after my three little princesses.
Now, read this, I'm not TRYING to get pregnant and I'm not going to be sad if we never have another child. I'm not going to be sad if we only have girls. I'm just sharing my thoughts. Don't send me hate mail!=)
We are having our cable turned off today and will be getting rid of our TV stuff in our garage sale this weekend. We're just ready for some changes in our family and I think that not having a TV will be the start of that. We rarely watch it anyway, and usually it's to watch a DVD we've rented, which we can do on our computer anyway. So, if you're reading this blog for the first time and are thinking "WHOA! They don't use birth control AND they don't have a TV are they weird or what?!" The answer to that question is yeah, we're weird. Aren't you!? We'd never look down on those who do the things we don't,and we expect you to do the same.
Also, if you or someone you know needs a new car or van we are selling both of our vehicles. We are really working on our debt-free campaign and selling these and getting something cheaper will help us in the long run. We're planning on having a BIG garage sale this weekend, so come by if you need so awesome stuff!=)
